Go Cubs!

We had quite the day of activities today... We left the house at 8:00am for the trails to go rollerblading and power walking.  The kids did great again today and I got a nice walk in.  We were home a few minutes after 9:00 and took about 10 minutes to get out of rollerblades and into clothes for a habitat field trip to the state park where we would join other homeschoolers.  We left the house... for the second time... at 9:15.  I stopped and got a coffee (have I mentioned that my coffee maker broke a few days ago?)... then made it to the state park about 10 minutes early... perfect!  Got the stroller set up, drank my coffee, met some other moms and families... then off we went with the crew... out to explore habitats.  The instructor started with a nice discussion of the animals we might see in the area... along with a large floor puzzle of the animals in their habitat.  Then we walked down to a pond and each kid got a scooping net to catch some pond life. Adam caught a tadpole... which was super   cool, and Ashley caught some minnows.  I don't think Anna caught anything, but she had fun trying!  It was so hot in the sun... mid 70s but hot in the sun!  When the kids were done forming a collection of pond life, they let all their critters go and played a game that involved a water spraying bottle (to cool down)... they had to sneak up to the eggs like they were foxes and try to get away with an egg without being sprayed... they had fun!  The field trip ended at 1:00... so we left there, ate our sandwiches in the car, and headed straight to our gym & swim class.  They missed half, but each had one activity to do... Anna and Ashley had swimming class while Adam had gym class... outside playing soccer!  When we got home, the kids played outside again while I cleaned out my car which was badly needing to be done!  We had an early dinner then headed out to 2 softball games at 5:15.  It was Ashley's first game (since she missed a couple while on vacation).  The coach was supposed to bring her uniform, but grabbed the "extras" instead... so she got to play with a blank jersey and her orange shorts... oh well, she looked cute and definitely looked like a part of the team... the socks are part of their uniform!  She played great!  She had 5 hits and scored 5 times!  Plus, her team won!  Anna also had a game... and her team won again (4-0).  Anna got a nice hit and almost made it to first base, but got out, barely!  Both girls did great and their number one fans enjoyed watching them play!  We didn't get home until 8:20... and still had to shower and, of course, eat again!   Everyone went to bed quite well!
